Body & Chassis

Body & Chassis

Just a quick post to show some pictures and answer some questions. I think a few people were confused about the chassis and the body of the car. Below is a pic of the chassis with the body removed. As you can see this is a complete custom tube chassis built specifically for this car by Factory Five. It’s not the old kit cars of the past built on a VW bug frame. And here is a close up pic of the body. Some people have thought that the body was already painted because of the red. This is actually just the fiberglass gel coat. All the bodies come from the factory in this same color. In this close up you can see the seam where the front has been bonded to the body just about 8 inches behind where the head light will go. There are seams along the top of the body...

Delivery, Body, Frame and Parts

Some of you have asked for more pics of everything so here they are. Some pics of the delivery and close ups of the body, frame and parts. Lot’s of parts. Finally, the big white truck arrives Image 1 of 23 All in there were 25 additional boxes full of parts and that’s not all of them. There are a few parts back-ordered and a few things that drop ship from the manufacture, like the wheels. Plus there was an odd mixup at the factory and I have to send a few back but Factory Five is taking care of it. The odd thing is that I ordered the Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) and while the frame came with IRS configured they sent a box of parts for a 3-link solid rear end. So those have to go back and they need to send me the proper parts. Other than that...

Allow me to introduce #8102

Finally. After a bit of dragged out waiting with the transport company the car has finally arrived. Someone said I was like a boy waiting for Christmas, the only problem with that was the constantly changing delivery date. I had no idea when Christmas was going to be. Silly me thinking that if the car was coming here from Wareham, MA it would come straight here. Nope, turns out it made a trip to Phoenix to change trucks. From there it went to LA, San Jose, Portland, somewhere in Montana and finally here to Parker. At least it’s finally here and now that I’m on vacation for the next week it gives me something to keep me busy. Here is a quick pic of the car sitting in it’s new spot in the garage. I’ll add some more shortly of the unloading...

Teaser

Ok just a quick teaser and some final pics before the big day. Car is supposed to arrive tomorrow Sunday the 7th. Spoke with the driver yesterday and he had completed his last delivery in Montana and was headed my way. He had 900 miles to go and said he would be here on Sunday. In the meantime here is another pic of the garage, setup and ready to get busy. I’ve got it pretty much decked out with the stereo, artwork, Hackintosh and all the tools. And here is a pic of the body buck. For those that don’t know this will hold the body while I’m building the car. It helps properly support it and keeps the fiberglass body from sagging. I’ve modified it a bit with the extended legs, so that it can roll over the frame and be stored there when...

Garage – Workbenches

Warning – another long thread about workbenches in the garage. 2 things first: 1) Factory Five started assembling the chassis today, scheduled completion is the 22nd of June. Stewart Transportation is scheduled to pick it up the week of the 24th, specific day not set yet. Once they do then I will have the delivery date. Expecting it the first week of July, what a nice July 4th this could be, if it’s too much after the 4th it will get close to the 10th and Caroline will start thinking it’s her birthday gift. 2) Someone, he knows who he is, mentioned looking at my site and expecting to see a car.  But all they could tell was that I knew how to clean a garage. Well now with this post you at least know I can work wood. 😉 With the floor down...
